DAY 58
DATE: 2/27/2013
Good Morning! My name is Heather Kenders and I was asked to give you a devotional thought from the book of Hebrews chapters 11 and 12. KEY VERSE:
Hebrews 12:1 Therefore we also, since we are surrounded by so great a cloud of witnesses, let us lay aside every weight, and the sin which so easily ensnares us, and let us run with endurance the race that is set before us. REFLECTIONS:
Hebrews Chapter 11 begins by defining faith. Verse 1 tells us faith is the substance of things hoped for, the evidence of things not seen. We then get so many wonderful examples of men and women who have lived a life of faith all combined into one chapter. To me this is so encouraging. It shows God’s faithfulness in so many different situations.
Chapter 12 really is a reminder that we will endure trials and tribulations on this earth. We as Christians need to stay focused and determined regardless of the temptation to give up. In Hebrews 12:3 we are reminded of Jesus Christ as being the supreme example of living a life of faith in God. He ran the race until His death on the cross for our sins. Hebrews 12:7-8 tells us that ALL of God’s children are chastened in some way. Our human nature does not welcome trials and tribulations and the Bible tells us for a time it might be painful. However, we are assured in verse 10 that it is always for our spiritual good. Just as earthly fathers are called to correct their children, our heavenly Father does the same. He loves us and wants what is best for us.
APPLICATION:
Let us keep our faith! It is so easy to get worn down with the weight of this sinful world but let’s not give up! Let us run a strong race for Christ until the end because Jesus Himself was faithful until death so that we might live for eternity in paradise. We may not always see the results of our faithfulness here on earth but when we get to Heaven it will all be so clear.
Thank you for being a part of the Route 66 Bible Reading Challenge. Thanks for reading, and you have a blessed day!
In Christ,
Heather
