DAY 55

DATE:  2/24/2013

Good Morning!  My name is Carolyn Smith and I was asked to give you a devotional thought from the book of II Timothy 3 and 4.

KEY VERSE:

II Timothy 3:16-17 All scripture is given by inspiration of God, and is profitable for doctrine, for reproof, for correction, for instruction in righteousness: That the man of god may be perfect, thoroughly furnished unto all good works.

REFLECTIONS:

Scripture was literally “breathed out by God” or “God-breathed.”  Sometimes God told the Bible writers the exact words to say, but He often used their minds, vocabularies, and experiences to produce His own perfect, infallible, inerrant Word.  When Scripture speaks, God speaks.

Paul was in a Roman prison, most likely arrested as part of Nero’s persecution of Christians.  He was in a cold cell (4:13), in chains (2:9), with very little hope of deliverance (4:6).  Paul was feeling that the end was near and passed the mantle of ministry to Timothy (2:2).

APPLICATION:

I like the story of the newly married lady who purchased a rolling pin and immediately removed the handles from it.  Her mother’s rolling pin had a lost its handles, so this lady had learned to use a rolling pin without handles.  So many times I have been guilty of basing what I believe on tradition or preference without really searching the Word of God.  Sometimes it is difficult to tell the difference between our preferences and Bible truth, but we must ask the Lord to guide us by His Holy Spirit.

Thank you for being a part of the Route 66 Challenge.  Thanks for reading, and you have a blessed day.

In Christ,

Carolyn
