Good Morning!  My name is Julie Fleming and I was asked to give you a devotional thought from the book of Ruth, chapters 2 and 3.

9 “Who are you?” he asked. “I am your servant Ruth,” she said. “Spread the corner of your garment over me, since you are a kinsman-redeemer.”

I love romantic stories with happy endings.  Nothing makes me happier than when, at the end of a movie, the guy gets the girl or vice versa.  This isn’t just a pretty story with a magical ending, even though Ruth does get the guy.  This is a beautiful example of a Redeemer, our Redeemer.  You see, the Hebrew word for kinsman-redeemer is go`el , and according to Levirate Laws, if a man died leaving a wife and no child, the next of kin had the right to redeem his land and take for himself that woman as his wife.  This would keep the land in the family and preserve the name of the dead man.  Ruth uncovered and was found lying at her kinsman-redeemer’s feet.  She asked him to cover her with the corner of his garment, symbolic of entering a marriage relationship.  You will see that that is exactly what God does for Israel in Ezekiel 16:8.

Jesus is our Kinsman-Redeemer.  He paid the price to redeem us.  When we come to Him and, at His feet, ask Him to cover us, He does.  He says that we belong to Him.  Our home is with Him.  Our debt is paid.  Our name is an everlasting one because of Who redeemed us.  For me it is a story of how a Kinsman-Redeemer knocked on the door of my heart.  I asked Him to cover me with the corner of His garment and He did.  A girl got her God or vice versa J.

What do you need redeemed in your life?  My challenge to you is that you will trust God to redeem it for you.  If you need redeeming, then ask Him to cover you, because He will.

Thank you for being a part of the Route 66 Challenge.  Thanks for reading, and you have a blessed day.
